If you want to have a healthy diet, you may think that you need to stick to the usual meal.

According to Teresa Fung, a professor in the department of nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, you don’t need to sacrifice all the sweet treats to stay healthy. Fung has an advice on what foods pack the biggest nutritional punch to a daily diet. Here are the add-ons you may want to include to your food that she recommended.

Teresa Fung emphasized that you need to make sure that the nuts are unsalted. There are no specific type of nuts you must eat. Feel free to choose the type of nuts that you like. According to another Harvard professor, Dr. Frank Hu, “We found that people who ate nuts everyday lived longer, healthier lives than people who didn’t eat nuts.”

In addition to the data gathered, “Overall, the daily nut-eaters were 20% less likely to have died during the course of the study than those who avoided nuts.”

Plain yogurt

“The problem with flavored yogurt is some of the brands out there have way too much sugar,” Fung told in her interview on the same article. Which is because sugar can nullify the health benefits of the plain yogurt. Yogurt is one of the foods out there that is rich in vitamins. Aside from the mentioned facts, plain yogurt is also an effective and natural face mask.

As stated by Fung, “This oily fish, known for its bright pink color, is rich not only in healthy protein but also in omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit both your heart and your brain. It also provides you with bone-building vitamin D.Aim instead to eat it at least once a week to reap the health benefits.”

One of the underrated food that contains various health factors is blueberry. As stated in Dr. Axe, “blueberries are a nutrient-dense food, meaning that there aren’t a lot of calories in blueberries, but they pack in a good amount of vitamins and minerals.” There are at least seven health benefits of blueberries:

  • Alleviate Inflammation
  • Amp Up Weight Loss
  • High in Antioxidants
  • Boost Brain Health
  • Support Digestion
  • Promote Heart Health
  • Help Fight Cancer
