Maybe it is now time to bid goodbye to the infamous Paleo and Vegan diet. And, this is for the reason that Pegan is now the new thing. What is with this kind of food that its creator, Dr. Mark Hyman recommend it?
In his interview with Yahoo Health, Dr. Hyman explained everything. He said, “I wanted to combine the very best aspects of a paleo and vegan/vegetarian diet rather than cherry-pick studies and pick sides”. He also added that pegan diet is natural to stick to and delivers fast but lasting results.
What is the difference between Paleo and Vegan diets?
Dr. Axe’s definition for paleo diet is, “that you’re consuming a lot of wild-caught meats that are some of the best omega-3 foods as well as protein foods”. And, for a vegan diet, “doing a raw plant-based diet is so beneficial for improving energy levels, alkalizing your body, and reversing certain types of disease and certain types of cancer.”
If you are the kind of person who is not yet committed to any of these diets: paleo and vegan, you might think using pegan diet as your kind of diet. Here are the things you need to know about pegan if you want to incorporate it.
Wide array of nutrients
According to Kristin Kirkpatrick, a dietician, pegan diet fares better and the diet is healthy. It is because “it doesn’t rule out anyone food except dairy and gluten”. She also added that this is like an upgrade from both the paleo and vegan diets.
As what she said in the same in the same interview, “In a vegan diet, for example, no meat is allowed but you can have beans, and paleo preaches the exact opposite. The benefit of combing means you can have your meat (but it’s got to be grass-fed, sustainable, etc.) and you can even have your beans, just in small amounts.”
In other words, there is balance if you will going to have a pegan diet. According to Dr. Hyman, in diet, “Keep in mind that most of us need to personalize the approach depending on our health conditions, preferences and needs.”

Dr. Hyman explained that pegan diet is a “Transitioning from the standard American diet to a pegan diet will jump-start optimal health and create impressive results immediately.”

- Focus on the glycemic load of your diet.
- Eat the right fats.
- Eat mostly plants – lots of low glycemic vegetables and fruits.
- Focus on nuts and seeds.
- Eat gluten-free whole grains sparingly.
- Avoid dairy and always organic.
- Avoid gluten
- Eat beans sparingly.
- Think of sugar as an occasional treat – in all its various forms.
- Eat meat or animal products as a condiment, not the main course.
Whether it’s a paleo, vegan, or pegan diet, it is important that you know what you are comfortable. If you will settle on what is trending, you may end up harming yourself.
