Artificial colors

Looking at the colorful menu can seem inviting for your little one. However, those colors turned out to be the symbol of skull rather than of rainbows. In other words, instead of giving your child a bright and cool food, you are actually giving her something that is bad for her health.


According to Today’s Parent, “Artificial food colors (AFCs) do not enhance the nutritional value of food and drinks”. There are also some researchers that shown how AFCs could increase hyperactivity of the kids who don’t have ADHD. However, this situation is not extended to all children.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

In 2009, there was a study entitled: Not So Sweet: Missing Mercury and High Fructose Corn Syrup. In the said research conducted by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, “we could detect mercury in about one of every three common foods or beverages where HFCS was the first or second labeled ingredient. Many of these foods are heavily marketed to children, who in turn are among those most vulnerable to mercury’s toxic effects.”

Having these HFCS on your meal can cause diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. If you think that your calorie intake starts to increase, it’s time for you to lower it down. Better yet, cut off most of your HFCS ingredients from the food you cook. Make it a habit to check your recipe.


There are 22 other additives and preservatives that you need to stop using. Even though it is hard for you to look for food that contains preservatives, you still need to work on it. Preservatives may help improve the texture, appearance, and taste of your food. But, it can bring danger your health. Check your recipe and erase all the preservatives that you might add.

If you don’t want your family to suffer from diabetes and heart disease, lowered blood oxygen, asthma, and stomach cancer, put a limit on using this. These preservatives can even affect your hormones. And this is according to the study published in Nature Communications.

Artificial sweeteners


Keeping the food instantly sweet is a great way to help your kids eat. But, there are a lot of downsides if you will be using that ingredient. As a reminder, never be too lazy to check your recipe. As stated on the Real Food Dietitians, there are the bad effects on your health that is caused by consumption of artificial sweeteners:

  • Increased desire for sweeter foods:
  • Decreased “good gut bacteria” and immune response
  • Weight Gain
  • Induces blood sugar disturbance potentially leading to chronic disease

Nothing will hurt if you will pay attention to the food that you eat. Being careful with what you are adding on your recipe is as important as knowing if the overall menu is healthy for you or not. There are a lot of hidden ingredients that you need to start to throw away. Always remember that flavor is a good thing, but health is more important.
