“Everybody’s doing it,” This might be your reason why you do things you thought will benefit your physical appearance. There are several and so-called artificial ways to make yourself look better that has been circulating in the internet. However, you may not be aware of it but you are already close to damaging your natural shape.
Not because everyone is using that to themselves, you will also do the same. When it comes to your skin, you need to be extra careful. Not all the tips that you can see online are applicable to you. Since not everyone have the same skin type, you might end up bringing harm to it. Below are the hacks that you need to avoid.
Trend #1: Removing blackheads using glue
You can see this so-called beauty trend all over the internet. However, it can cause damage to your skin. Do-it-yourself stuff are good since it can save you a lot of money. But, you need to remember that you might be irritating your skin.
According to the board-certified dermatologist, Shari Marchbein, she does not recommend this kind of beauty trend. As what she said in the interview with Allure, “It can be irritating and potentially cause an allergic reaction on the sensitive skin of the face.”
Ingredients that are used to make the glue are not meant for cosmetics. James Hammer even said in the same interview, “Since it is a water-based household product, it probably contains preservatives that are not usually used in cosmetic products, so this could be a source of irritation or concern with repeated exposure.”
Ask your dermatologist about the effectiveness of this beauty trend. If you think that your blackheads are helpless, seek for the real remedy for that. Never use something because it is deemed to be cheaper. It is important that you are aware of the side effects before using it.
Trend #2: Injecting botox by yourself
Once you look into several beauty shops, you will see a lot of botox. Since its price is lower than what you need to pay on clinics, you might end up ordering it. Dr. John Paul Tutela, a board certified plastic surgeon, stated that your dermatologist must tell you the amount of units that they recommend. If you will do everything by yourself, you might end up looking frozen due to the dosage you injected.
Aside from the botox itself, it is important that you are prepared for the maintenance. Dr. Tsippora Shainhouse, a dermatologist, explained, “You must use neurotoxins continuously in order to reduce muscle movement and prevent long-term skin creasing”. It is not just a one shot miracle, you need to exert effort, time, and money for it.
Trend #3: Using deodorant as primer
A lot of crazy hacks have been trending in the internet right now and you need to watch out. You may think that is is only silly but putting something on your face that is meant to be applied on your underarms can damage your face.
As what Dr. Mona Gohara said in her interview with Marie Claire, “Deodorant contains aluminum salts and strong fragrances that can be super irritating to your face, causing red, flaky patches and inflaming acne and bumps”. She added, “Under no circumstance would I advise this; stick with the real deal when it comes to primer, and leave the antiperspirant for your pits.”
Trend #4: Trying out #KylieJennerChallenge
Not hating on Kylie, she’s gorgeous but the hack of making your lips look plump can affect your lips’ natural structure.
