Be Aware of Climate Change: Protect Your Health

One of the biggest threat to our human health, aside from Disease X, is climate change. It is not new to you to hear this word. However, the negative effect that it can give to your health is something that will give you a question mark. It’s now time to protect your health.

According to U.S Global Change Research Program, “The influences of weather and climate on human health are significant and varied. Exposure to health hazards related to climate change affects different people and different communities to different degrees.”

In addition to the statement given by the said research program, “With climate change, the frequency, severity, duration, and location of weather and climate phenomena—like rising temperatures, heavy rains and droughts, and some other kinds of severe weather—are changing.”

How can you protect your health by the sudden change of our climate? Listed below are the things that you need to do in order to be safe.

Ask your local health unit

If there is a group that is willing to help you, it is the people in the government. In case you don’t know yet, the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) team up to protect your health from climate change.

As what the Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, Patricia Espinosa, said “Many people experience climate change through the impacts on their health, from air pollution and heatwaves to the contamination of drinking water from extreme weather events—if together and with many partners we can realize the world’s climate goals we can also play our role in providing a major health boost to billions of people.”

WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added that “Climate change is one of the most pressing public health threats of our time. The health of future generations everywhere depends on all of us working together to take concrete action today.”

Pollution can never stop but you can reduce its effect. It is important that you know the basic way of throwing the garbages. Yes, there might be some rules that were being implemented in your city. But, what can you contribute when it comes to that? The best question is, do you even took a part in making sure that you also help? Analyze yourself.

It’s your first barrier to environmental allergens and airborne pollution”. Dr. Sethi is an associate professor of dermatology and infectious diseases at the University of Chicago Medicine

You can actually do something about it by giving back to mother nature. As what the
American Lung Association in California did in order to reduce climate pollution. The movement that Californian did is having a “zero carbon economy is a movement toward a clean air future.” Through this, they were able to reduce its impact and bring more health benefits.

Earth is the only one planet where we can live harmoniously. That is why in order not to lose it, we need to pay attention to it. If you will not do anything about it, you may end up suffering from deadly diseases and illnesses. Protect your health by doing these two steps. These might be too few for some but it can really help you to live a good life.
